Fairfield is at the center of California's major transportation network. Interstate 80, one of the nation's major east-west routes passes through Fairfield where it intersects with Interstate 680, a major north-south route through the East Bay. Twelve miles east of Fairfield is Interstate 505, which connects with Interstate 5, the major north-south route connecting Canada and Mexico.(back to top)

Rail lines run through several of the City's business and industrial parks, providing some of the only rail-served industrial property in the County. The California Northern Railroad (CFNR) operates between Suisun/Fairfield to a connection with the Northwestern Pacific Railway at Schellville. CFNR makes connections with Napa Valley Railroad at Roacktram. Traffic includes lumber, wine, beer, food products, steel pipe, agricultural products and construction material.

Public Transportation
Bus Services and Routes. Fairfield is served by buses providing affordable access within the city and regionally. The Fairfield/Suisun Transit System (FTS Flyer) has frequent and low cost bus service citywide. CITYLINK bus service also connects Fairfield to other cities including Vacaville, Dixon, and Davis to the north.
BART. BARTLINK bus service stops in nearby Suisun City, the Cordelia area of Fairfield, Vallejo and the El Cerrito BART Station to the South. Solano BART Express provides direct one-stop service from Fairfield's Transportation Center and Westfield Solano Mall to the Pleasant Hill BART station. These service routes link FTS Flyer, Vacaville City Coach, UniTrans, and YoloBus systems.
The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations in Concord, Walnut Creek, and Richmond, all about 30 minutes away, offer a fast, modern alternative to traveling throughout the Bay Area.
Dial-A-Ride Transit (DART) is operated by Fairfield/Suisun Transit and is an American with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) paratransit service available to senior citizens and people with disabilities.
Solano Paratransit offers countywide transit service to persons with disabilities.
Vallejo Baylink. The Vallejo Baylink Ferry connects directly to the San Francisco Ferry Building and Fisherman's Wharf. Operated by the City of Vallejo, Baylink has four high-speed ferries providing passengers with convenient scheduling, full ADA accessibility, and a scenic, stress-free route to San Franicisco.
Amtrak/Capitol Corridor. Fairfield residents can take a short five-minute trip to the Suisun train station to catch the Amtrak Capitol Corridor train, which connects to Sacramento, Oakland and San Jose. Amtrak Capitol Corridor provides convenient, frequent, affordable daily service between the Sacramento region and the Bay Area. The construction of the Fairfield-Vacaville train station in 2010 will provide additional options for Fairfield residents. (back to top)
