Redevelopment has changed the face of Fairfield. It has enhanced and expanded local businesses, encouraged new businesses to move to town, increased affordable housing stock, and developed public infrastructure.
Redevelopment is a process specifically authorized under California Law to assist local governments to revitalize their communities. Redevelopment encourages new development, creates jobs and generates tax revenues in declining urbanized areas by developing partnerships between local governments and private entities. Over 400 California cities and counties have adopted local redevelopment plans.
Redevelopment promotes smart growth. The Agency generally assists development in blighted or declining areas rather than at the outskirts of town. It enables the city to grow inward and improve existing neighborhoods.
Fairfield has five redevelopment project areas: City Center, Cordelia, Highway 12, North Texas Street, and Regional Center.
